My name is Ken and I’m a doctor in the Greater Toronto Area. Video games have been a lifelong pastime of mine – something that I shared with my twin brother. We would often wake up at the crack of dawn to play Super Mario Bros 3 before school  or stay up late into the night trying to figure out how to defeat Ganon in The Legend of Zelda! I rekindled my passion for old games during medical school when I was trying to find balance between my studies and life. In the fall of 2015 my brother sent me a picture of some old favourites that he found in a pawn shop. Having sold all of our old Nintendo gear years ago, it reignited a childhood passion for playing and collecting!

Here is the picture that started it all!

Old School

Since then, my collection increased dramatically – but more recently has decreased (and for good reason). As I became a father, I needed more space for my daughter to play so I let some of my collection go. Many of my old games were just sitting on my shelf for years without being played, and occasionally I would  try and play one and it would take 20 minutes just to clean it and get it to work – more stress than fun! I decided to limit my collection to a row of games for each console that I have (because they look really cool on there), and then decided to shift from old-school cartridges to EverDrives and from retro consoles to Analogue hardware which dramatically increased the fun and reduced the complexity of getting these games to run!

  3. Why am I just now finding out about RetroGameMan!?!??! Well, it’s because I recently had the same idea to review retro games!! Lo and behold, there’s someone who has already “cornered the market”!!! Awesome site. If you ever need any help doing reviews, let me know. I’ve a RetroPie system that I recently setup, and I was thinking of using it to play through the games of my childhood and write about them. Email: jay . clark [at] gmail [dot] com
